Good mics vs Bad Mics

Good mics vs Bad Mics

Use a good mic...

So I kind of came at this from reflection... I went viral on insta and had a lot of comments about things being a 'bad mic' or 'good mic', but I firmly sort of believe that there's no good mics or bad mics... just context.

BUT that's pretty facetious thing that would probably just annoy people. I was sent this mic, The Extinct Audio Valkyr in 2019 to make some videos and once I'd done that Stewart at Extinct suggested just keeping it, using it and making videos.

Which I've done...(and will continue to do so!!).

Extinct are a great company, hand making beautiful things.

Xaudia are a great company, making and fixing things by hand. Wonderful all round.

This sort of does a sort of potted history of my recording with ribbon mics and tbh engineering in general.

All roads lead to Tortoise - which once I got the Extinct was why I wanted to record a cover of Ten Day Interval from TNT (one of my favourite albums).

Recorded at https://www.drum-attic.co.uk

(except the archive stuff recorded at Majetone HQ V1, V3, A Truck, AC08 at Big Fig etc teeny bit of Otterhead)

Check out the "Dream Snare Bell Brass" referenced here.
